Frequently Asked Questions When an Accident Happens

Q: I was just in an auto accident. Should I go to the ER?
A: For all life threatening injuries or extreme physical distress, you should always call 911 and be transferred to a hospital's ER by ambulance. However, if your injuries are minor, there is no need to spend 3-4 hours waiting in the ER. Save yourself time and money and visit us instead.

Q: I have already been to the hospital's ER. Do I really need to see a chiropractor?
A: If you went to the ER following an auto accident, the doctors are mostly looking for life-threatening or critical injuries, such as broken bones or damage to the internal organs. As long as there is no immediate threat to your life, they will send you on your way with a prescription for pain medication. If you've been in an auto accident, chances are that you have sustained soft tissue injuries or whiplash. Symptoms can manifest days later in the form of headaches, muscle spasm, neck pains, back pains, and tingling or numbness in the extremities. The ER can do nothing for these symptoms, and drugs do not correct structural or soft tissue damage. There are special therapies designed to treat such injuries, which we offer at our clinic.

Q: What about the car insurance, who pays for my care?
A: Usually, there are no out-of-pocket expenses to you. We handle all of the paper work and we work with the auto insurance companies to get your bills paid.

Q: Do I need to hire an Attorney?
A: Dr. Byun will help you determine if you should consult with an attorney. If you decide to hire an attorney, but don't know where to search, do not worry! Dr. Byun has worked with reputable and honest lawyers and can connect you directly to one if needed. If you already retain legal representation, we will work with your lawyer and provide all the necessary documents and forms.

Q: How long does it take to get better after a car accident?
A: It differs from person to person. Sometimes it may only take a few weeks, in other cases, it may take much longer. Dr. Byun will explain your prognosis and development a plan specific to you so that you can be fully recovered as soon as possible. He will also teach you exercises and tips on how to take care of your body to minimize the chance of developing chronic or recurrent pain.

Q: When will I be able to get an appointment?
A: Most times, we will be able to see you on the day when you call. It is important to begin therapy as soon as possible in order to speed your recovery.

Q: What can chiropractic do for auto accident injuries?
A: Effective chiropractic treatments have already proved successful for thousands of auto accident patients. A chiropractor can in most cases, reduce inflammation and muscle spasms, prevent the formation of scar tissue, significantly reduce pain, restore normal movement, overcome muscle weakness, speed recovery, and increase overall well-being by stabilizing the injuries from the auto accident.

Q: Why are medical records and reports important?

A: Medical reports and records are extremely important to your insurance claim because they are evidence of your injuries. Proper documentation not only includes a description of your injuries, it also must include exam findings, treatment plan, description of your pain, time lost from work, functional loss, recovery time, prognosis, and any other future medical treatment that may be needed.
